### Author Biography

**ROY THOMAS** joined Marvel as a writer and editor under Stan Lee, scripting key runs of nearly every Marvel title: _The Amazing Spider-Man_, _The Avengers_, _Daredevil_, _Doctor Strange_, _The Sub-Mariner_, _Thor_, _The X-Men_ and more. He wrote the first ten years of Marvel's _Conan the Barbarian_ and _Savage Sword of Conan_; and launched the Defenders, Iron Fist, The Invaders and Warlock. At DC, he developed _All-Star Squadron_, _Infinity Inc._ and related titles, proving instrumental in reviving the Golden Age Justice Society of America. He co-scripted the sword-and-sorcery films _Fire and Ice_ and _Conan the Destroyer_. Throughout it all, Thomas has edited the award-winning magazine _Alter Ego_, contributing heartily to the research and history of the medium.

**John Buscema.** Best known for his run on the series _The Avengers_ and _The Silver Surfer_, and for over 200 stories featuring the sword-and-sorcery hero Conan the Barbarian, which he took the pencilling from Barry Windsor Smith. In addition, he pencilled at least one issue of nearly every major Marvel title, including long runs on two of the company's top magazines, _Fantastic Four_ and _Thor_.

In 1978 he collaborated with Stan Lee to produce the book _How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way_ which has never been out of print and still remains one of the best books available on the subject of drawing comics.

His list of credits runs into the hundreds and includes such legendary characters as _Doc Savage, The Punisher, Daredevil, Captain America, Deathlok_ and _Tarzan._

He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2002.
