### Author Biography

Wu Cheng'en was born in the early 1500s in the Jiangsu province of China during the Ming Dynasty. Although he briefly worked as a political official, his true passion was writing poetry and stories. After writing and traveling extensively, Cheng'en died in the 1580s. He is widely considered to be the author of _Journey to the West,_ which was published anonymously in 1592.
