**Lyz Lenz** is the author of _God Land_ and a columnist for the _Cedar Rapids Gazette_ and contributing writer for the _Columbia Journalism Review_. Her work has also appeared in the _New York Times_, the _Washington Post_, _Huffington Post_, and _Pacific Standard_, among other publications. She lives in Iowa.
