### Author Biography

**Michael Willrich** is the Leff Families Professor of History at Brandeis University and a 2015 Guggenheim Fellow. He is the author of two award-winning books, _City of Courts_ and _Pox: An American History_, and his writing has been published in the _New York Times_, the _New Republic_, and _Mother Jones_. He lives in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
