Poppy loves nature, and can be found carrying on conversations with ladybugs or singing with cicadas, but good luck spotting her indoors and around people She's a master of camouflage, always finding a way to blend into her surroundings. Some might call her a wallflower.

At a party, Poppy stays out of sight. But when a very special bug lands on the cake, Poppy can't resist popping out to see it. Soon, the rest of the guests notice the beautiful dragonfly, and Poppy, too. Maybe she's not a wallflower after all, but a _wild_flower.

This poetic and evocative story celebrates the shy and introverted kids among us, as well as the other small creatures to be found if we look closely enough.

### Author Biography

**Larissa Theule** holds an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts and lives in Pasadena, California, with her family and dog. Like Poppy, she is often shy of people and loves to be surrounded by nature. She is also the author of _How Do You Do?_, illustrated by Gianna Marino, and _Born to Ride: A Story of Bicycle Face_, illustrated by Kelsey Garrity-Riley.

**Sara Palacios** is the illustrator of _How to Code a Sandcastle_, _The_ _Flying Girl_, _Agnes and Clarabelle_, and many more books. She is also the recipient of the Pura Belpré Illustrator Honor for her work on _Marisol McDonald Doesn't Match/Marisol McDonald no combina_. A native of Mexico, she earned her BFA and MFA degrees in illustration from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
