**Kate Gavino** is the author and illustrator of _Last Night's Reading_ (Penguin, 2015) and the graphic novel _Sanpaku_ (Archaia/BOOM! Studios, 2018). Her work has appeared in _The New Yorker_, _The Believer_, _Longreads_, Oprah.com, and more. She was both the greatest and the worst editorial assistant.
